I am Carolina Proaño-Castro, sustainability and development professional with over 10 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, climate change, sustainable development and scientific research.
I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2016 with a Master’s in Conservation Leadership. In addition I hold a master’s in International affairs/development studies, a minor in environmental sustainability and a bachelor’s in biology.
I am creative, innovative and action-oriented. What moves me is the opportunity to turn sustainability, biodiversity and ecosystem services knowledge into regenerative and practical actions that are evidence-informed, tailored to local contexts and have a positive impact in forests, landscapes, businesses and communities.
My professional interests and career development milestones can be summarized into the following 3 categories:
1) Science-policy-practice interface: I am interested in the development and implementation of collaborative, inter- sectorial and evidence-informed sustainability strategies. I have an innate ability for conveying complex technical concepts to broad audiences through knowledge management and collaborative and inter-disciplinary work.
2) Sustainable business development: I am interested in business models that put social and environmental considerations at the same level that economic stakes, and build together a regenerative economy. Based on concrete actions, I support companies and entrepreneurs to build this type of business models, to adapt their processes and to comply with their environmental commitments as part of a strategy to maintain competitiveness and profitability in new markets.
3) Conservation Strategy and sustainable management of nature reserves: I build conservation strategies that are holistic, resilient, evidence-informed and adapted to local contexts. As well, I design effective sustainability plans for expanding, connecting and maintaining nature reserves hand-in-hand with local communities and the private sector. My vision is to create sustainable and inclusive landscapes as well as replicable models for conservation.
My blog is organised around these three areas. If you are interested in knowing more about my profile, please get in contact or find my CV here.
